Sometimes, no matter what we do…

we can’t save them all.

Lou, a green iguana, became IRR’s mascot on February 28, 2009. He had a rough life until he came to us. His spines were bent, he had a scar on his back thigh and his tail was broken. BUT he was a wonderful scaly man.

He had a great time at the rescue for the couple of months that we had him. He loved to walk around the shelter and interact with the visitors. He even liked to cuddle with Jason & Jakob and be scratched between the ears.

We lost our Lou the last Friday in April. We are glad that his last few days were extra special!!

Birthday Parties!!

Other special animals that didn’t make it…

Copper, a Florida Corn Snake, came to the rescue in Summer 2008. He had flown to Iowa on a military jet liner. The conservation society could not get him to eat, so they turned him over to us. Eventually we began to lose weight and we had to have him force fed. We lost him soon after that…

Bonnie, a baby bearded dragon, came to us right after we opened the shelter. She was a friendly little girl but never really grew. Her brother Clyde, was a slow grower as well. Bonnie had a seizure and broke her leg. Unfortunately, we were unable to save her...

Hercules, a juvenile red tail boa, came to the rescue early April 2009. He had an upper respiratory infection and mouth infection. Even after getting shots 3x’s weekly at the vets, lots of cleanings and creams and other cures, he started to get mouth rot. The poor big guy lost most of his teeth and was in severe pain. We lost him on Friday, May 15, 2009.

Ozzie & Marco Polo, two Sudan Plated Lizards came in very underweight and dehydrated; they arrived with our friend Bonz. Despite our best efforts, they did not make it. These two will be missed…

Sandi and Hunter, baby corn snakes, were a wonderful part of the rescue. Both with a different personality and very sweet. Each had eating issues and neither one made it through. We all, Alexis and Jaycee especially, will miss them.

Rosy, the tarantula, was a wonderful part of our rescue. She was great fun to have around and to have her interact with others. I know that Genna (and everyone at the shelter) will miss her.

Sometimes, someone takes them…

On June 25th, 2009, Ivanna the Iguana was stolen from the shelter by an unidentified robber.

Ivanna was found in an abandoned apartment and had been very abused. We are hoping that she will be returned.
