Surrender/Adoption… We do NOT charge a fee to take in animals...
The Adoption Process
After researching and selecting your replies there are a few steps you will need to take before the adoption process is completed. First you will need to have a proper enclosure and any supplies that will be needed to care for your new pet. It is also essential to have all of the knowledge necessary to care for your new pet.
Adoption fees vary from pet to pet, usually a donation of $10 to $100. You will need to complete an adoption agreement. Not everyone that applies to adopt will be picked to adopt an animal.
These forms are available at our location in Southridge Mall during normal business hours. WE DO NOT ADOPT “ON THE SPOT”!
The Surrendering Process
Need to free up some extra room? That snake getting too large? That lizard getting aggressive? That frog keeping you up all night? That kids lose interest in the turtle? IRR accepts direct surrenders of most species of snake, lizard, frog or turtle. We DO NOT charge a fee to take in animals.
If you wish to turn custody of your reptile/amphibian over to Iowa Reptile Rescue, you will need to fill out a Release of Custody form. These forms can be filled out when surrendering the reptile/amphibian.
Reptiles/amphibians will not be accepted unless a release form is turned in with the animal. We do take walk-in surrenders, but we always suggest you call first so that we can be sure to be ready and waiting…
AS OF JULY 1, 2010, WE NO LONGER TAKE NATIVE SPECIES OF ANIMALS (THOSE THAT ARE FOUND IN THE WILD IN IOWA). ALL NATIVE SPECIES REQUESTS OR SURRENDERS WILL BE REFERRED TO DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES. IF YOU NEED A CONTACT NAME AND/OR NUMBER, PLEASE LET US KNOW AND WE CAN PROVIDE YOU WITH THE APPROPRIATE INFORMATION. |
